Trial of alleged drug trafficker, Momoh Charles, over 51.25 kg Cannabis Indica continues July 22

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had on Monday adjourned further trial of an alleged drug trafficker Momoh Charles till July 22 and 23.
Momoh charles is standing trial before the court presided overJustice Ayokunle Faji on one count charge of importing 51.25 kilogrammes of Cannabis Indica through the Tin Can Port Apapa, Lagos into Nigeria
At the Monday’s trial, an exhibit keeper and operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), Mr Kenneth Baba Jiya narrated the role he played in the process leading to the arraignment of the defendant.
Led in evidence in chief by the NDLEA prosecutor Kunle Adebajo Esq, Jiya also tendered the exhibits recovered from the defendant, his extra-judicial statement, seizure receipt, drug analysis report amongst others.
Following the conclusion of his evidence in chief, Justice Faji adjourned the matter till July 22 and 23, 2025 for cross examination by the defendant’s counsel Barrister Bayo Onifade leading Bola Bolawole.
Recall that the defendant had earlier pleaded not guilty to the one count charge when he was arraigned.
The charge against the defendant reads :
That you Momoh Charles, Male, Adult, on or about the 11th day of September 2024 at Tin Can Island Port Apapa, Lagos within the jurisdiction of this honourable court without lawful authority imported 51.25 Kilograms of Cannabis Indica a drug similar to Cocaine, Heroin and LSD by concealing it in a 2015 Model Hyundai Accent with Chasis Number KMHCT5AEOFU221459 and 2010 Model Hyundai Sonata wth Chasis Number KMHET46C06A130929 and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
