Ivory Coast legend and former Man City midfielder, Yaya Toure has joined former Spanish coach, Vicente del Bosque in picking Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time (GOAT) ahead of Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Del Bosque, who led Spain to their only FIFA World Cup trophy back in 2010, had said he once approached Messi to play for the Spanish team.

The former Real Madrid coach also said he prefers the Paris Saint-Germain forward to Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo in the debate for who is the greatest player among the duo.

Del Bosque told Radio Marca, “the best player I have ever seen is Messi. Between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, I will take Messi.

“Of all the players I’ve known in so many years in football, for me, Messi, for his consistency and his quality as a player, has been impressive.

“He has had some fantastic seasons and has always led his team forward.”

Reacting to a similar debate, Toure also said he prefers his former Barcelona teammate, Messi, to Ronaldo following the Argentine’s FIFA World Cup triumph.

Toure, a former Premier League star, speaking on Sky Sports, confessed his admiration for the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner.

He said, “I’m a fan of Messi and I think everybody knows what he has achieved in his career and what he can be.”

Barcelona and Real Madrid legends Messi and Ronaldo are undoubtedly two of the best footballers of this generation and arguably of all time.

The two football icons have 12 Ballon d’Or awards between them and have won a whole lot of other laurels at the club and international levels.
