The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has condemned the ‘FreeNnamdiKanu’ protest organized by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, saying it is wrong to try to influence judicial proceedings through demonstration.

He made this known on Monday in a now-trending post he shared on his official X page.

Dare was reacting to demonstrations led by Sowore which took place in Abuja and some other Nigerian states on Monday.

Reacting to the protests, the presidential aide said matters of justice are resolved in courtrooms, not through public agitation.

He added that such demonstrations are counterproductive and inimical to the rule of law.

Speaking via his verified social media handle, he wrote, “Protests, threats, attempts at mob actions, and inflammatory rhetoric do not aid the judicial process. Instead, they hinder it, creating unnecessary tension and undermining the rule of law.

“Justice must come through courts, not street protests over Nnamdi Kanu. You cannot employ protest and civil unrest to demand the release of someone accused of terrorism and whose case is still in court. Not even in America.”

Dare further reminded the protesters that the case against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, long predates President Bola Tinubu’s administration and remains strictly under judicial consideration.”
