TheNiche had earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning declared Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

Announcing the result, INEC’s Chief Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, noted that he defeated all other candidates.

She said, “I, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the Ekiti State governorship election held on June 20, 2026.

”That Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Reacting to the victory, Tinubu described the re-election of the Ekiti State Governor as a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance.

He went on to commend the people of the state for their peaceful and orderly conduct, and for reposing their trust in Governor Oyebanji.

He equally commended law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order during the off-season election.

Tinubu further charged INEC to continue to conduct peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections as the nation approaches the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year.

”With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back.

”Governor Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development under his agenda.

”The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” the president said.
