On 15 May 2026, gunmen invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School (Esiele) in Oriire LGA, reportedly kidnapping 39 students and seven teachers.

Since the incident, the bandits have killed two of the teachers and threatened to kill more of their victims in videos recently making the rounds.

Reacting to the development, Timaya released a statement calling on the presidency to take urgent action to tackle the escalating insecurity in the country.

“We appeal to the Government for even greater urgency, collaboration, and action in addressing the growing security challenges facing many parts of our country,” his statement partly read.

On his part, Victony demanded that President Bola Tinubu rescue all kidnap victims—especially children—and end insecurity in the country once and for all.

Speaking via his X handle, he wrote: “Save our children & Put an end to this mess @officialABAT.”

Also wading into the matter, Davido said the continuous suffering of the victims in captivity makes him deeply sad.

He prayed for the victims, adding that the government must ensure that the current insecurity in the country does not persist.

Reacting to the abduction via his Snapchat page, he wrote: “I’m weak. God pls take control. We can’t continue like this… my heart goes out to the victims and family .. this is messed up”.
