The vulgar rich of our land
By Abraham Nwankwo
A new column of the devious rich behold:
Narcotic drug merchants and fee fraudsters abound,
Corrupt civil servants and governing elite have joined.
Even stronger actors in vulgar ostentation,
Even more dangerous ’cause cerebrally deficient:
Empty, noisy, vain and a flashy lot.
Bewildering agents of cancerous social decay:
Their sons in drug addiction are deeply trapped,
And in school, masters of secret cults profane.
As they compete for wild and weird display,
Of wealth all crude and so insane.
Like the snake, the offspring for sure is long.
Society a point-of-no-return has reached.
Control mechanisms have come to no effect.
Towards putrefaction the norms have moved with speed:
Decadence emerging as a way of daily life.
Achievement on a standard so absurd is defined,
A counterfeit civilization; Alas! a culture so defiled.
They buy titles and revered crowns usurp,
In alliance with governments run by thieves.
Who collaborate to intimidate the weak,
And the land they turn to a jungle of beasts.
A fiendish scheme that the march to civilization halts.
Leading man back to anarchy; Oh! It surely badly hurts

For hard currency so scarce, they import some toxic waste;
To the land they bring disease and cans of death.
Lethal waste that nuclear plants of the North produce,
Evil refuse that those lands cannot manage well,
Effluents that cause nightmare that science cannot cure.
The vulgar rich to their own native land import.
And now another product from their box of rot:
They hawk miracles in new churches they found;
To the sacrilegious territory, their corrosive passion they carry.
Crowds of the depressed in their traps are caught,
While drums of cash the vulgar cart away.
With their hideous agenda, the mind of the unwary warp.
