Terrorists have imposed a N60 million levy on 12 poor communities in Zamfara, in the North West, making worse the pain of hardscrabble life of rural dwellers who get by only on subsistence crop or animal farming.

Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist in the North West, disclosed the extortion on his X (Twitter handle) where he listed the terrified localities which the terrorists said are being punished for facilitating military raids on terror hideouts, per Daily Post.

“Residents fear attacks if they don’t pay,” Bakatsine wrote.
