Ten Hag urged to strip Bruno Fernandes of captaincy

Ten Hag was advised by Chelsea legend, Sutton, to deal with Fernandes, by taking the armband from him in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Betis

Chelsea legend, Chris Sutton has advised Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag to strip Bruno Fernandes of the captain’s armband following Red Devils’ 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

A goal from Roberto Firmino and a brace each from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah ensured Liverpool claimed all three points and annihilate Erik ten Hag’s side.

Sutton, in his Daily Mail column, while analysing the match, criticised the team’s captain, Fernandes for his lackluster performance and his behaviour during the game at Liverpool.

The former Chelsea striker had earlier asked Ten Hag to take the Portuguese off as the game ran away from Man United.

He wrote: “Whatever you think of Harry Maguire, the club captain, you would not catch him behaving like this on the pitch. Ten Hag dealt with the Cristiano Ronaldo problem.

“Now he needs to deal with Fernandes, starting with deciding whether he deserves to wear the armband in Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Betis,”
