Ten Hag reacts to sack by Leverkusen, says it’s a ‘complete surprise’

Dutch tactician, Erik ten Hag, has described his sack by Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen as a “complete surprise”

He made his feelings known recently in a statement issued and made available to reporters by his agency.

Ten Hag was relieved of his duties on Monday, after taking charge of just two Bundesliga fixtures.

The Dutchman, who had been without a job since being sacked by Manchester United in October last year, was employed by the former German champions on July 1.

In total, Ten Hag was in the role for only three games – a German Cup win over minnows SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach, a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim and a dramatic 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen.

Speaking via the statement, he said,
“The decision by Bayer Leverkusen’s management this morning to put me on a leave of absence came as a complete surprise.

“To part ways with a coach after just two league matches is unprecedented.”

Ten Hag went on to  blame the sales of key players for their poor start to the mew campaign.

He also accused Leverkusen of not giving him enough time to implement his ideas with the squad.
