Team Nigeria picks silver medal in 4x100m men’s relay in Glasgow

Team Nigeria’s men’s 4 × 100 metres men’s relay team produced a brilliant win to pick a silver medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Nigerian quartet of Kanyinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Udodi Onwuzurike and Adekalu Fakorede clocked 38.12secs behind first placed Australia, with gold in 38.07 secs.
Ghana won bronze in 38.13 secs behind Nigeria, in one of the closest in the athletics programme.
England placed fourth in 38.71 seconds, while Jamaica came fifth in 39.07 seconds. Canada and South Africa were disqualified.
Nigeria’s silver-medal performance crowned an impressive athletics campaign, with the quartet delivering excellent baton exchanges and maintaining their shape in a fiercely contested race.
The relay success came after individual performances from the same athletes during the championships.
Ajayi ended Nigeria’s 20-year wait for a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 100m by winning bronze, while Onwuzurike claimed silver in the men’s 200m.
The latest podium finish further underlined Nigeria’s resurgence in men’s sprinting and reinforced the country’s status as one of the Commonwealth’s leading sprint nations.
Nigeria has also enjoyed a memorable athletics campaign in Glasgow, with Samuel Ogazi winning gold in the men’s 400m, Ezekiel Nathaniel triumphing in the men’s 400m hurdles, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi securing the men’s shot put title.
Jessica Oji added silver in the women’s shot put, while Tobi Amusan, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Temitope Adeshina and several other Nigerian athletes also reached the podium to boost the country’s medal haul.
The relay silver increased Team Nigeria’s tally to 22 medals at the Games, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, as the country’s athletes continue to deliver one of their strongest Commonwealth Games performances.
