Senator Aminu Tambuwal has been granted administrative bail from detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling N189 billion he allegedly made when he was Sokoto Governor between 2015 and 2023.
The graft burster detained him at its Abuja headquarters on Monday upon his arrival there at about 11:30am to honour invitation for questioning.
“Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, is being held over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of N189 billion.
“The withdrawals are in flagrant violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022,” a source in the EFCC told The PUNCH on Monday.
Another EFCC source confirmed on Tuesday that Tambuwal was released after meeting his bail conditions, which were “not stringent.”
“He has been released on administrative bail. He met all the bail conditions. His passport is with us,” the source said.
