Afrobeats singer, rapper, and songwriter Akinbi Bamidele Brett, better known as Superboy Cheque, has disclosed that his battle with acne lowered his self-esteem and almost made him quit singing.

The ‘Zoom’ crooner made the revelation recently while appearing as a guest on a programme on the popular radio station Yanga FM Lagos.

Speaking during the interview, Cheque also recalled how his struggles with acne stopped him from expressing love to women he was romantically attracted to.

He further explained that, in a desperate bid to cure the chronic skin condition, he purchased make-up that almost disfigured his face.

Superboy Cheque said: “I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy make-up that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music. I couldn’t even approach women then.

”After my breakthrough song ‘Zoom’ and getting signed by a record label, it dawned on me that I would be attending interviews and would be in front of cameras. I am a perfectionist. So, I went to a store to get make-up to clear it, but instead, it almost disfigured my face. I woke up one morning and realised that my whole face had been damaged.”
