Super Falcons were eliminated from the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after narrowly losing 1-0 to Cameroon.

Super Falcons’ hopes of making it to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup came to an end after losing 2-1 to South Africa at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Thursday night.
Following their elimination from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), both Nigeria and Banyana Banyana needed a victory to advance to the intercontinental play-offs.
Two tickets were up for grabs, with the four losing WAFCON quarter-finalists battling for them.
South Africa opened the scoring in the World Cup play-off in the 56th minute through Thembi Kgatlana, and doubled their advantage 21 minutes later when Refiloe Jane found the net.
However, after scoring, the South Africa captain was sent off in stoppage time for picking up a second yellow card after handling the ball inside the penalty area.
Christy Ucheibe converted the resultant penalty kick to give Nigeria a consolation goal in additional time, but South Africa held on to win 2-1.
