The encounter was expected to be a cracker after the Falcons lost 2-4 to the same opponent on home ground in the final of the Aisha Buhari’s Cup in Nigeria.

Neither of the two sides could breach each other’s defence in the first half of the match played in Rabat, Morocco on Monday, and the half ended in a stalemate.

South African, however, took the lead through Jermaine Seoposenwe in the 60 minutes and extended their lead two minutes later with another goal from Hildah Magaia.

Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade came close to scoring in the 65 minutes, but her effort was easily gathered by keeper Dlamini.

Super Falcons reduced the deficit after pulling one back two minutes into added time when Ajibade eventually found the net after an assist from Ebi Onome.

It was, however, too little too late as the Banyana Banyana held on to win the match 2-1.
