Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle demands $130,000 monthly for contract extension

By Uzor Odigbo

Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has submitted a detailed 19-point proposal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), outlining his conditions for a contract extension.

The document, first reported by journalist Shina Oludare, was formally presented on January 22, 2026. It addresses remuneration, welfare, technical independence, and operational structure, reflecting Chelle’s push for a more professional and stable working environment.

Central to the proposal is a consolidated monthly package of $130,000, which would cover Chelle’s salary, his technical crew, and a personal assistant.

He is also demanding guarantees that wages and bonuses be paid on or before the 30th of every month—a key measure to address the persistent delays that have plagued Nigerian football.

Additionally, Chelle wants his personal assistant formally included in the team’s bonus and allowance structure, with all coaching staff placed on proper employment contracts.

Welfare and Logistics Demands
Chelle’s requests extend beyond coaching duties. The Franco-Malian tactician is seeking: A private SUV with a dedicated chauffeur and security; Housing in a secure neighbourhood with uninterrupted power supply; A fully furnished office equipped with tactical analysis tools, including a projector and reliable internet access; Business-class travel for himself and his wife, with economy-class tickets for their two children.

Technical Autonomy Demands

More significantly, Chelle is pushing for greater control over team operations. He is requesting: Full autonomy in team selection and player call-ups; Authority to choose international friendly opponents; Structured camping programmes; Permission to travel domestically and internationally to scout and monitor players; Provision of GPS trackers and modern training equipment; Monthly strategy meetings involving all national team coaches.

For Chelle, these are essential requirements—not luxuries—to build a competitive Super Eagles side capable of dominating Africa and competing globally.
