Presidency plots to arrest Amaechi, ADC chieftain alerts

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Sunday Ohakwu, has said that there is a plot to arrest the party’s top presidential aspirant, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. According to him, the party has uncovered the plot which is aimed at striking a lethal blow to the party’s readiness to clinch the presidency from the ruling party come next election.
He gave the statement in Abuja on Wednesday. According to him, following the undeniable popularity and widespread public acceptance of Amaechi as the right person to take Nigeria to greater heights, some top persons in the APC are jittery and not happy about the development.
According to him, “We have discovered that the plot is to arrest Amaechi, a top opposition political figure. We strongly have it on good authority that the plot is being coordinated by a top security official in the APC government, in the Presidency and could happen anytime soon, barring any last minute change of plans,” the chieftain said.
He said, “In the past weeks, several meetings have been held, with a small committee formed to find and provide water proof grounds and reasons for anti-graft agencies like the ICPC or EFCC or even the DSS to arrest, detain and then prosecute the ADC presidential hopeful using the courts.
“As part of their aggressive efforts to find reasons and evidence to nail him for prosecution in the courts, various teams are currently looking at State records, accounts and properties in Rivers State, Lagos State and Abuja, looking for a full-proof, watertight case that will lead to the arrest and trial of Amaechi.”
The chieftain also said that “a thorough investigation had been carried out on his time as Minister of Transportation during the Buhari administration, in their efforts to find something incriminating against Amaechi.”
Amaechi, who was also a former governor of Rivers State, is a top and leading opposition figure from southern Nigeria, aspiring to be President of Nigeria under the leading opposition party, ADC. He has been very critical of the current APC government.
Chief Ohakwu however said that whatever plot being set in motion to distract Amaechi and the ADC from the presidential race ahead is dead on arrival.
“We want to let them know that whatever plots they are planning against our leader is already dead on arrival. Nigeria will not accept any witch-hunt or acts to distract or intimidate our party or our leader,” the statement concluded.
