Students offer their N5,000 upkeep allowance to end ASUU strike

While pledging their N5,000 monthly upkeep allowance to ASUU, the students also appealed to the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis

No fewer than 1,000 students in Federal and State Universities in Ondo State have offered to give the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) N5,000 each of their monthly upkeep stipends if they suspend the going strike embarked upon by them.

The students in a “Save Our Future” letter to ASUU and the Federal government, said keeping them at home for such a long time could ruin their future if care is not taken.

“We are worried about the prolonged strike of ASUU. The educational sector of this county is declining gradually.

“We know that more students will join our cause. We promise ASUU that this contractual agreement will not be breached.

“We know that it is a tall decision we have made, God will give us power and enable us to fulfil it so as to save our future,” they said.

The students however appealed to the Federal government to take the issue of education with all sense of seriousness saying that they should fulfil the agreement reached with ASUU

“We are also appealing to the Federal Government and ASUU to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis between them in the interest of our future and the country at large.” the students say.

ASUU had declared the commencement of a strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the University of Lagos.
