Bayern Munich right-back Josip Stanišić has reflected on his “unforgettable” experience playing against former Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) final in May 2024.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 fixture against Atalanta, Stanišić revisited the evening in Dublin where Lookman’s historic hat-trick secured the Italian side their first-ever European trophy.
Lookman’s clinical finishing and constant threat inspired a 3-0 victory, ending Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-match unbeaten run.

Stanišić, who was on loan at the Bundesliga club at the time, found himself directly pitted against the Super Eagles forward.
Addressing journalists before Tuesday’s UCL clash in Italy, the Croatian international admitted he had a “torrid time” marking Lookman.
He also expressed a firm desire to avoid a repeat of that performance when Bayern face the Serie A outfit.
As reported by Gazzetta, Stanišić remarked: “It still hurts a bit when I think about that loss. Lookman was outstanding, and I also played a part by giving him too much space. I don’t want to play like that tomorrow.”
