Spain eased past France with a comfortable 2-0 win in the first of the two 2026 World Cup semi-finals, played at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday.

La Roja dominated the early exchanges but were unable to turn their possession into clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.

Lucas Digne, however, handed Luis de la Fuente’s side the opportunity for their first goal when he brought Lamine Yamal down in the box, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the penalty spot.

Mikel Oyarzabal then stepped forward and struck an excellent spot-kick; although French goalkeeper Mike Maignan went the correct way, the ball sailed over him and into the net.

Things went from bad to worse for France when their influential defender William Saliba went down off the ball. He was replaced in the 30th minute by Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix.

In the second half, Spain doubled their advantage after Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro combined with Dani Olmo before calmly slotting the ball past Maignan.

Yamal thought he had put the game completely out of reach after netting a third goal for his side, but the effort was ruled out after VAR judged he was in an offside position.

Following this comfortable victory, Spain will now face either England or Argentina in the final of the tournament on Sunday.
