The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed displeasure on the purported endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
He said that it was sad that NANS leadership that ought to provide vibrant leadership in terms of direction as expected of its role in assisting to build a strong nation has degenerated towards getting immersed in politics without support that would enhance the welfare of the masses of Nigerians.
Sowore, who is also the publisher of on-line news media, Sahara Reporters, said that it was pathetic that NANS had become involved in deep political activism that no longer favour the masses but on personal gain.
According to him, “NANS was an instrument used to assert the popular views and position of the masses of Nigerians. But today they have deviated from such lofty objective.
“Most of them are now driving expensive cars and have allowed themselves to be divided and speaking with different voices.
“They (NANS) now have different executive and nolonger united as one voice. You can see that they nolonger have the fire as it used to be because the association has been infiltrated and most of them are now being used by some corrupt political class to sabotage our democracy. Its worrisome and those involved must be conscious of history”.
