Social media goes frenzy over Rahama Sadau’s alleged arrest for blasphemy

The social media has been feasting all day on allegation that Rahama Sadau, the Hausa film actress who wore a backless gown has been arrested for blasphemy.

Even after the news of her arrest was refuted by people who claimed to have spoken to her family members and confirmed her safety, social media commenters have refused to believe the story.  

The story of her arrest became a social media issue when a man alleged that Rahama Sadau dressing enabled blasphemy of Islam most revered prophet.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu’s memo directing the police in Kaduna State to treat the case proactively, added to the controversy because of the uncertainty in the meaning of ‘proactively’ of the memo.  

“I am to convey the directive of the inspector general of police that you treat proactively with a view to ensuring the development does not result to any act that could threaten public peace and security,” the IGP letter had said.

Mohammed Lawal Gusau had in a letter of complaint to the IG on the controversial picture of the actress, said that a blasphemous comment was made against the prophet in reactions that followed the images.

“Sir, I am writing to inform you that Rahama Sadau a Kannywood actress through her controversial picture has angered many people and if not quickly looked into could degenerate into a serious crisis,” he said.

Premium Times quoted on Saturday, November 7, a publication, Film Magazine, that the actress was disallowed from leaving the country. The report said Sadau was on her way to Dubai with her family but was asked to honour an invitation from the Kaduna police commissioner.

The online newspaper said that an associate of the actress confirmed the development.

The newspaper said that a spokesperson for the Kaduna police, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls and messages seeking comments.
