The home side dominated possession and goalmouth actions in the first half and had a couple of chances to take the lead but poor marksmanship robbed them.

West Ham who has been in very good form throughout the season had a very poor game as they had only a shot on target for the entire 90 minutes.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the 48th minute after Alexandre Lacazette sent a defense splitting pass to Gabriel Martinelli who put the home side 1-0 up.

Coufal was judged to have brought him down in the penalty box

Coufal, who had been booked in the first half when his arm caught defender Kieran Tierney, was eventually sent off for a second booking in conceding the penalty.

Emile Smith Rowe came from the bench to double Arsenals’ advantage in the 87th minute after an assist from fellow academy graduate, Bukayo Saka.

The goal from Smith Rowe killed the fight left in the 10 men West Ham and effectively helped Arsenal to leapfrog the visitors into the 4th position.
