Veteran Nigerian rapper and singer, Palisade Ogunka, better known as SkyB, has expressed regret over the failure of ace music star, Damini Ogulu (aka Burna Boy), and other reigning Rivers State-born artists to support him, despite him paving the way for them.
He lamented the situation recently while appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the KAA Truth podcast.
According to SkyB, he assisted several Port Harcourt-based artists, including Mr. 2Kay and Timaya, when he held sway in the industry, but they abandoned him after his fortunes declined.
He went on to say that despite not directly assisting Burna Boy—who hails from Ogbogolo in the Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State—the Grammy-winning singer should have supported his return to the spotlight through a musical collaboration or financial assistance.

He further noted that he would have received much more assistance had he been an artist of Igbo or Yoruba extraction.
Speaking during the interview, SkyB said: “I once gave a PA to the Governor an artist’s number. He called the artist and told him he wanted him to perform with me at an event, and the artist declined, saying he didn’t want to share a stage with me. The artist rejected the contract because he didn’t want me to be part of the deal.
“These are brothers I have helped in the past. I helped many artists like Mr. 2Kay and Timaya. We made sacrifices for the Port Harcourt music industry. We invested a lot of resources.
“What is annoying me most now is Burna Boy coming into the limelight and not remembering me and those who paved the way for Port Harcourt musicians. He is supposed to support me financially or collaborate with me to rejuvenate my career. That is the problem I am having. Assuming I am a Yoruba or an Igbo man, maybe they could have considered helping me. But because I am from Rivers, the envy is too much,” he lamented.
SkyB, who rose to fame in the mid-2000s, is best known for his hit debut album Pray For Me and classic tracks such as “I’m Calling (My Baby),” “Here I Am,” and “You Promised Not To Go”.
