Afrobeats singer, rapper and songwriter Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, better known as Skales, has set tongues wagging on social media after his recent advice to Nigerian youths.
Speaking recently in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the artist urged them to make emigrating abroad a top priority.
According to Skales, leaving Nigeria would guarantee the security of Nigerian youths and afford them the opportunity to achieve their goals.
Speaking via his verified handle, he said, “As a young Nigerian, your biggest dream should be to leave Nigeria so you can survive and actually achieve your dream by at least staying alive.”
After the post made the rounds online, it elicited mixed reactions among Nigerians, especially the youth.
While some netizens berated him for encouraging a ‘brain drain’ instead of urging fellow citizens to hold their leaders accountable, others noted that his claim that a better life and security are guaranteed abroad is misleading, citing racism and other challenges Nigerians face overseas.
However, a segment of the audience backed his suggestion, citing the nonchalant attitude of politicians towards the plight of the youth and Nigerians in general.
