SHOCKING: NYSC Iyana Ipaja camp in deplorable shape

The source called on the NYSC and the Lagos State government to take urgent steps towards renovating the camp.

The appalling condition of Iyana Ipaja orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has left many worried.

Decaying walls, worn-out beds, bed bug infested mattresses, poor toilet facilities, among others, characterise the ugly state of the camp despite Lagos being the choice State for many prospective corps members.

A source, whose daughter joined her peers at the camp on Wednesday for the orientation programme, said to The Niche, “My daughter went to camp today and sent these pictures of where they are expected to stay for one month orientation. How can a human being use this facility for God’s sake?”

The source called on the NYSC and the state government to take urgent steps towards renovating the camp.

The 21-day orientation programme kicked off on Wednesday nationwide for the 2022 Batch C, Stream One.

When TheNiche visited the NYSC camp in Iyana Ipaja on Wednesday after receiving the text, many of the Youth Corps members wore long faces.

One of them, a female from Adamawa, who schooled in one of the universities in the North and who spoke on the condition of anonymity said she was thoroughly disappointed by the dilapidated state of the facility.

“This is not what I expected. This is the first time I am coming to Lagos State and the impression some of us had was that Lagos is heaven on earth.

“In fact, some of us lobbied to be posted to Lagos. But I am disappointed. The mattresses are infested with bed bugs and I really don’t know how I can survive here in the next three weeks. It is really frightening,” she said.

Attempts to speak with some of the NYSC officials were rebuffed.
