Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has advised Afrobeats singer Davido not to count on the support of United States President Donald Trump, following his call for the American leader to intervene in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The former Kaduna Central senator made his position known in a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday, shortly after the Electricity hitmaker’s appeal.
Earlier, Davido had called on President Trump to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election while expressing concern over rising tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, and disruption of the democratic process ahead of the poll.
Taking to his verified handle, he wrote: “President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
”We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

Reacting to the call, Sani said those attempting to involve Trump in Nigeria’s electoral process were just wasting their time, arguing that the US President has little interest in the credibility of elections in Africa.
He further noted that the incumbent US president’s “hands are full with the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza, and Ukraine and, most importantly, his party is battling to survive the upcoming” midterm elections.
Sani said: “Those who are trying to drag Mr Trump into our elections are just wasting their time.
“Trump is not Obama or Biden. He has little interest in the credibility or otherwise of elections in Africa. The elections in Tanzania, Uganda, and Cameroon are case studies.
“Mr Trump’s hands are full with the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza, and Ukraine and, most importantly, his party is battling to survive the upcoming Senate and House of Representatives elections.”
