Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has told  the Nigeria Police Force that the organizers of the planned August hardship protest will not submit details of their activities to the security agency.

He gave the advice via his X page on Saturday, saying it can only happen if they have been hypnotized or charmed.

Sani’s reaction came after the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun told the organizers of the August 1 to 10 protests to submit their details to the commissioners of police in their respective states.

The IGP’s instruction followed a request by human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, who is the solicitor to those planning the demonstration.

Adegboruwa had asked the police and Department of State Services (DSS) to provide security for the intending protesters.

Reacting to the development, Sani who led protests during the Military era in Nigeria, stressed that the protesters cannot give details of their plan to the police.

Speaking via his verified social media handle, the former senator tweeted: “The only way a protester can submit his name and address to the police is when he is charmed or ‘jazzed’ by a priest or a native doctor.”

TheNiche had earlier reported that the planned protest has become a trending but controversial topic on the social media space.

However, organizers of the demonstration justified the agitation, saying the demonstration is a fallout of the worsening economic situation in the country.
