Shehu Sani described Fayose’s statement about people of Northern Nigeria as a “contemptuous and unconscionable” one

Human rights activist and former lawmaker, Shehu Sani has asked former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose to tender an unreserved apology to Northerners after making a “contemptuous and unconscionable” comment about people of the region.

The People Democratic Party’s chieftain in an interview on a Channels Television programme on Monday night stirred the hornet’s nest after claiming the decision of northerners to marry multiple wives and have children indiscriminately constituted a huge burden on the Tinubu-led federal government and hindered it from developing Nigeria.

Speaking during the interview, Fayose said, “The reason why it is difficult for Tinubu to develop Nigeria is because Northerners are giving birth to children they can’t cater for.”

Reacting to the comment in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central senatorial district in the senate, said Fayose’s statement was disrespectful.

He tweeted, “Even though Fayose spoke as an individual, his reported statement on Northerners is contemptuous and unconscionable.

“I suggest he should humbly withdraw it and tender an apology as a statesman.”
