Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has expressed regret over the passing of Hajiya Hadiza Jega, wife of the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega.
He offered his condolences on Sunday in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
Earlier, the family of the deceased announced the demise of Hajiya Jega in a statement made available to the press.
The statement read: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing of the wife of our former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Attahiru Jega, OFR.”

The family added that the Janaiza (funeral) prayer would take place following the Zuhr prayer at 1:30 p.m. at the National Mosque in Abuja.
They also offered prayers for her soul to be granted Aljannah Firdausi and called on friends, associates, and well-wishers to remember the family in their prayers during this period of mourning.
Reacting to the bereavement, Sani noted that he was saddened to hear the news of her demise.
The former lawmaker went on to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of the wife of the former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK).
Speaking via his verified handle, Sani wrote: “I received the sad news of the passing away of the beloved wife of Professor Attahiru Jega. A great loss. May Allah grant her Aljanna firdausi. Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun.”
