Shammasu late strike hands Nasarawa win over Enyimba

Shammasu Mohammed’s late strike made the difference for Nasarawa United to beat Enyimba Int’l 2-1 at the Lafia City Stadium in an NPFL MatchDay 10 fixture.

The encounter came to life when Enyimba took the lead 13 minutes with a Victor Mbaoma’s left footed kick ending inside the net.

Nasarawa United responded almost instantly but couldn’t level the scores after Tochukwu tried his luck from afar but it was an effort that couldn’t trouble Djeri Bassa in goal for Enyimba.

The Solid Miners made scores even when debutant Tolulope Oluwole executed an acrobatic play that sent the ball beyond the reach of Djeri.

A moment of controversy ensued when Emeka Obioma’s half volley rattled the cross bar before landing on the line leading Enyimba players to protest that it should be ruled a goal.

The home team struggled to create chances as Enyimba dominated play as the first half ended.

Enyimba returned to the second half and continued to mount pressure on the Solid Miners seeking to restore their lead. They could have scored on 64th minute but Ugochukwu Gabriel was at his best again as he cleared the ball for a corner.

Nasarawa United would later capitalise on Enyimba defensive blunder with Shammasu racing to a loose ball and unleashing a rocket from the edge of the box. Goalkeeper Djeri parried the to safety.

Nasarawa United nicked it in added time when Michael Tochukwu freed Abdullahi Abubakar at the far right before the full back’s cutback was expertly poked in by Shammasu from close range to a wild celebration from the home fans.

Ugochukwu Gabriel was adjudged to be the man of the match after a stellar performance.
