Shaibu also alleged that former Edo State governor, Oshiomhole begged him to support Gov Obaseki for three months

The embattled Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has said his former boss, Godwin Obaseki was not a politician and had no financial capacity to become the governor of the state in September 2016.

He made this known recently while featuring on Channels Television’s programme ‘Politics Today’.

Speaking during the interview, he also said it took former Edo State governor,  Adams Oshiomhole three months to convince him to support Obaseki.

He went on to say out of respect for Oshiomhole he decided to support the governor and joined resources with other friends to make him governor.

Shaibu said: “Obaseki was not a politician, even financially, Obaseki was not financially strong to even contest the election. Oshiomhole brought him and when Oshiomhole brought him, some of us argued that it could not be him.

“It took Oshiomhole three months to convince me and some of our supporters to support Obaseki.

“And when we decided because of the respect for Oshiomhole to support him, he did not bring money – we brought our resources and our friends to bring money and we brought our political capital to make him governor.

“So, when you are talking about deputy governors and governors, he is not the one that made me, I made him.”

Shaibu and his principal, Obaseki fell out not long ago and the feud led to his impeachment by the state House of Assembly.

However, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court reinstated Shaibu, who recently took to social media to announce he has resumed his duty.
