The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has been hailed as the hero of young Nigerians for participating in the #June12Protest in Ibadan.
The Ibadan protest is largely devoid of Police harassment, perhaps because of the presence of the Governor, who also addressed them and rode along with them while they chant solidarity songs.
Many Nigerians have hailed the Governor for joining the protest as a way of protecting the protesters from police harassment.
@Slimfit tweeted: “I saw a video of protesters in Oyo State shielding Governor Seyi Makinde as he drives through to protest with them. I dare Sanwoolu or even Buhari to try same.Honestly, Nigerians are the easiest to rule. Just do the bearest minimum & everyone is happy.”
@VictorIsrael said: “Seyi Makinde is the governor Sanwo-Olu wishes he is. Governor Makinde Joins residents of Ibadan, Oyo state as they carry out the #June12thProtest. Makinde is indeed the man of the people. So much Love for him.”
@Irunnia_ said: “People are saying that Governor Seyi makinde is pretending. It’s okay. We need other governors and politicians to pretend too. We need Buhari go pretend.”
@SodiqTade said: “I like to remember that Seyi Makinde has restored people’s confidence in government. People are moving around protesting in Ibadan without any fear of intimidation or police harassment.
Peaceful protests will strengthen our democracy, and we must protect it.”
Seyi Makinde drove himself to Protest ground with little security, and he’s having a talk with protesters. I know my governor. Who is your governor.”
