Men carrying firearms and machetes reportedly attacked the family house of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the early hours of April 16 in Obeiba-Ihima community, Okehi Council of Kogi where she defied police to address her mammoth supporters during the Muslim holiday about three weeks ago.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Thursday.
He said intelligence sources told him that Natasha’s Chief Security Officer Yakubu Ovanja reported the incident to security authorities, per Daily Post.
Makama quoted Ovanja as saying the attack occurred around 1am and involved at least three armed men who vandalised parts of the building, including shattering window panes.
“Following a distress alert, a team of security operatives from Okehi Division swiftly mobilised to the scene. While no casualties were reported and no arrests have been made, the damage was documented and preliminary investigations have commenced.
“Police sources said the motive behind the attack remains unknown as investigations continue,” Makama disclosed
Police sources said motive for the attack remains unclear as investigation is still ongoing.
Natasha announced live on national television at her visit to her constituents during the Muslim holiday that Senate President Godswill Akpabio allegedly hired former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, a political rival, to arrange her assassination.
This was after she made sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio in March which in part led to her suspension from the Senate for six months, at a plenary presided over by Akpabio where she was not given the opportunity to defend her claims.
Akpabio has petitioned Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to investigate the assassination allegation but Natasha countered that the move is a tactic being used by Akpabio to distract police attention from her own allegation.
