Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has declared that he was not scared of any team that would be drawn to play the Super Eagles at Russia 2018 World Cup in December.
The German tactician pointed out that all teams that qualified for the mundial were good and should not scare anyone.
“I want to prepare the Super Eagles to be technically efficient, capable of playing any team in the group. There’s no reason to be scared of any of them if you understand your philosophy as a coach.”
On what he would consider as a memorable outing in Russia, Rohr said, “Getting out of the group and preferably a quarter final placing.”
The German born coach said that more players would be invited to fortify the team and would really not at the expense of players who helped the team to qualify.
“We shall invite more players for our preparations for the world cup, especially in the wings that we need solid presence.
According to him, Super Eagles left back position needs more gifted players like Elderson Echiejile and Ola Aina.
“We would need new players as one won’t be sure of what would happen to any of the players that helped qualify Nigeria for the mundial in nine months.”
On Vincent Enyama possible recall to the team, the coach said that presently, the goalkeeper is recuperating from injuries and need to gain fitness and probably find a new club. Until that happens, Ezenwa Ikechukwu still remains Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper, he said.
Rohr paid tribute to former goalkeeper Carl Ikeme whom he said contributed much in Nigeria’s qualification for Russian 2018 World Cup.
“Carl was our man of the march in Zambia. The saves he made kept us in contention and we dedicated the victories to him. I expect his recovery,” he said.
Rohr assured of top class friendly matches with top European, Latin American and Asian teams, insisting that any of the teams in these confederations might be drawn with Nigeria.
Gernot Rohr was a guest of Talk Radio Fm sports zone on Friday where he expressed gratitude to Nigerians for appreciating him and the players for the World Cup qualification.
