English pundit and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said that Tottenham Hotspur are caught up in a relegation battle and risk being demoted from the Premier League this season.
The former England striker made the claim on Monday while appearing as a guest on a BBC Sport programme.
According to Rooney, Spurs’ poor form could see them relegated despite their status as one of the “Big Six” in the English top flight.
His comments come after Thomas Frank’s side put in another poor performance last weekend, losing 2-0 to Manchester United.

They are currently 15th in the league table, just six points above the relegation zone.
Discussing the possibility of the drop, Rooney noted that West Ham and Nottingham Forest, who are equally threatened by relegation, have shown better form and have picked up more consistent results recently.
He said: “You’d have to say they are [in a relegation battle] with their current form.
“West Ham have been in form, Nottingham Forest pick up results here and there. I think they (Tottenham) will definitely be looking over their shoulders.”
