Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ronaldinho has sent a heartfelt message to Argentine star Lionel Messi following his recent retirement from international football.
The Brazilian football legend paid the emotional tribute to the Inter Miami forward during an interview with Sky News Arabia.
Ronaldinho and Messi played together for nearly four years at Barcelona, during which they made 80 appearances together and combined for eight goals.
Notably, it was the Brazilian who provided the assist for the Argentine striker’s first senior goal for the La Liga giants.
Meanwhile, despite announcing his retirement from international football last month after leading Argentina to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, Messi was unexpectedly included in Argentina’s squad for their friendly matches during this international break.

While Argentina are scheduled to play three friendly matches against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin Republic, Messi is expected to feature only in the encounter against Benin Republic on 6 October.
While wishing him well, Ronaldinho noted that he is happy with what the 39-year-old has achieved in his footballing career and beyond.
The Brazilian, who is widely recognised as Messi’s mentor during their time at Barcelona, also confessed that the Argentine occupies a distinctive position in his heart.
He said: “Messi is a very dear friend, and he has a very special place in my heart.
“I am so happy for everything he has accomplished and continues to achieve. I hope he continues to bring joy to people as he always has, and that he ends his playing career in the best way possible.”
