According to eyewitnesses, the suspects, who were armed with rifles, also covered their faces with masks during the operation which lasted for about three minutes.

The robbery suspects were also said to have escaped the scene with the money stacked in the ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags after ambushing the car of their victim, a Toyota Venza, marked ABC 565 GN.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the police were already on the trail of the criminals.

“It is quite unfortunate that the suspects escaped from the scene before our operatives arrived. But I want to assure you that we will definitely get them and bring them to justice,” Oyeyemi said.

Prior to this incident, another trader was killed during an attack by a gang of armed robbers in the popular Tarmac phone market in Abeokuta on April 13.

One of the eight robbers was arrested while others fled the scene after a gun battle with the police.

However, on May 7, the police command announced the arrest of three more members of the gang.
