Rivers governorship election: Supreme Court dismisses suit challenging Wike’s qualification

-

The Supreme Court has dismissed the suit challenging the qualification of Nyesom Wike to uphold the governorship seat in the Rivers State elections.

Justice Paul Galije who read the lead judgment on Monday which was prepared by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola said the Appeal Court erred in law to have allowed the appellant, Elvis Chinda, amend his notice of appeal several days after he ought to have done so.

The five-man panel held that amendment of notices of appeal cannot be done outside the time stipulated by law.

Governor Wike had earlier approached the apex court challenging the decision of the Appeal Court to allow Mr Chinda amend his notice of appeal seeking to remove him as Governor of Rivers State on the grounds of alleged age falsification.
