Republic of Ireland deports 35 Nigerians

By Jeffrey Agbo

The Republic of Ireland has deported at least 35 Nigerians, including five children, via a chartered flight that left Dublin Airport on Wednesday night.

The deportees included 21 men, nine women, and five children. They arrived in Nigeria on Thursday following the overnight flight, according to The Irish Mirror.

Irish Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, confirmed the deportation, stating he was “happy to say” all individuals were returned to Nigeria, despite an unscheduled stopover caused by a medical emergency on board.

Although the Irish government did not disclose specific reasons for the deportations, O’Callaghan emphasised, “Ireland has a rules-based immigration system. It is important that those rules are robust and enforced.”
