Reno Omokri: From “I’ll never work for Tinubu” to “It’s an honour to be his ambassador nominee”
By Ishaya Ibrahim
Reno Omokri, now nominated as ambassador by President Bola Tinubu, previously vowed he would never work for the president, saying “it’s not in my DNA.”
Omokri is among the 32 ambassadorial nominees sent by Tinubu to the Senate on Saturday. The list also includes former INEC chairman Mahmud Yakubu, former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, among others.
After Omokri accepted the nomination with gratitude, an old interview he had with Seun Okinbaloye where he foreclosed any chance of accepting appointments from Tinubu has now surfaced.
In that interview which was held before Tinubu’s swearing-in, Omokri said it would be against his principle to accept any appointments from Tinubu.
Okinbaloye asked Reno: “If Tinubu approaches you to work for him, would you?”
Omokri responded: “It would never happen.”
Okinbaloye asked again: “Which of the scenarios. He approaches you or you approach him.”
Omokri said: “Oh my gosh, I don’t want to betray privilege. Someone from Bola Tinubu’s camp has already reached out to me and I told the person that it cannot happen, I cannot do it. It is just against my principle. Some people can do that. But it’s not in my DNA. I can’t do it. It’s never going to happen.”
