The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has named Kayode Pitan as the new pastor of City of David.
Pitan replaced Pastor Idowu Iluyomade who was ousted as the head of the City of David after his wife held an elaborate 60th birthday where she was serenaded by Flavour.
Pitan was appointed by the church governing council, during the just-concluded RCCG convention.
The appointment marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at City of David parish.
Before his new role, Pitan was the Pastor in Charge of the Tabernacle of David in Region 51 and also served as the Regional Pastor.
The call for Iluyomade’s replacement followed the public outcry over the extravagant 60th birthday party of pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju Iluyomade, which came a few days after the tragic death of former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent member of the church.
Following the criticism, in June 2024, the Governing Council of the church suspended Iluyomade for three months and replaced him with Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish.
Pastor Pitan will succeed Pastor Charles Kpandei, who has been serving as the interim pastor.
