The Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Hon. Ayodele Akande has described the convergence of the 2026 Ramadan and Lenten periods as a rare and sacred opportunity for Muslims and Christians to unite in faith and deepen spiritual growth.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Akande said the overlap of both religious observances presents a moment for intensified prayers, reflection and the pursuit of divine blessings.

He noted that the coincidence of Ramadan with the closing phase of the Christian Lenten season underscores shared values of sacrifice, discipline and devotion among adherents of both faiths.

The commissioner urged the faithful to embrace the period as one of spiritual rejuvenation, calling for a renewed commitment to peace, love, humility and kindness.

“I am specifically wishing all our faithful a double blessing as we share this moment of spiritual rejuvenation together in peace,” he said.

Akande cautioned against losing focus as the sacred observances draw to a close, encouraging adherents to remain steadfast and finish strong in faith.

He emphasised that the period serves as a reminder of the enduring virtues of charity, selflessness and compassion, which should extend beyond the season.

According to him, the solidarity built during the combined period of fasting and prayers must translate into sustained peaceful coexistence and stronger communal bonds.

He added that the fruits of the season should foster peace and progress in Ondo State, Nigeria and the global community.

Akande reaffirmed the commitment of the ministry to delivering on the “Ease Agenda” of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, particularly in ensuring access to potable water and improved sanitation, while praying for the acceptance of sacrifices and answered supplications.
