Protest erupts in Taraba Nursing College over attack on female hostels

Concerns over insecurity at the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences have intensified following an alleged overnight attack on one of the female hostels, which triggered a protest by students on Monday, September 21, 2026.
According to sources, the attackers reportedly broke into the hostel in the early hours of Monday and allegedly raped a female student, who has subsequently been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The sources further alleged that the victim sustained serious injuries during the attack, including an injury to one of her fingers, which was reportedly severed by the assailants.
The incident has reportedly heightened concerns among students, who alleged that the attack was only one of several instances including the dispossession of students of their valuables and personal belongings.
The students took to the streets in a peaceful protest, expressing concerns over inadequate security measures around some of the hostels.
The protesters called on the college management, the Taraba State Government and relevant security agencies to urgently strengthen security around the institution, including improved surveillance and other measures to protect students around hostels.
They also urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, identify those responsible and prosecute anyone found culpable.
As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Police Command has not issued an official statement confirming the alleged attack.
The management of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences has also not publicly commented on the incident.
