Ibadan, the historical hotbed of South West politics, on Monday erupted in protest over the “renewed hardship” inflicted on citizens by President Bola Tinubu who has failed to use the power in his hand to do all he can to reduce the huge cost of governance that eats up funds for social infrastructure that would slash the cost of living.

The latest uproar follows similar agitation in neigbouring Osogbo which came after those of Lagos, Minna, and Kano – against Tinubu’s campaign promise of “Renewed Hope Agenda” which has turned into “Renewed Hadship”.

Angry youths in Ibadan protested over  the high cost of living, food inflation, and the economic hardship across the country.

They protested in the Mokola area of city carrying placards, some of which read:

  • “End food hike and inflation”
  • “The poor [are] starving”
  • “Tinubu, don’t forget your promises”

Armed policemen stood by as the demonstrators held the peaceful rally against the economic hardship caused by the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange windows.

The police on Sunday warned that no breach of peace would be allowed during any protest in Oyo State.

This is breaking news. Details later…
