Pregnant woman arrested in an NDLEA sting operation across many states

Favour Haruna, a pregnant woman aged 25, has been arrested with 82 pinches of methamphetamine and various quantities of other illegal drugs, among them Loud, Arizona, Colorado variants of cannabis, and codeine-based cough syrup.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made the arrest in Auchi, Edo State, according to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi,

He also cited drug busts in several other states, including Lagos, Ondo, Abuja, Kano, Gombe, Kogi, and Sokoto.

He said a Brazilian returnee, Okolie Nwabueze, was arrested for importing 92 wraps of cocaine through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

Nwabueze, a father of two, had arrived in Nigeria on a Qatar Airline flight en route Brazil-Doha-Abuja.  Following his arrest, he was placed under surveillance until he excreted the drugs which he had ingested, Babafemi disclosed.

A 42-year-old man, Aliyu Kwasare, was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano for attempting to export a consignment of new psychoactive substance, Akuskura, to Saudi Arabia.

At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, over one million tablets of Tramadol 225mg were seized by the NDLEA in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Babafemi said.

Other arrests

The NDLEA arrested a freight agent, Aliyu Abubakar, at the NAHCO export shed of the MMIA for attempting to export a consignment of cannabis concealed in bottles of Caro white body lotion, according to Babafemi, per The PUNCH.

He said a raid at the cannabis plantation camp in Emure forest in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State led to the arrest of Monday Onoja, 20; Daniel Kehinde, 25; and Obinna Okechukwu, 35; with 16 bags of the illicit substance seized from them.

Attempts by drug cartels to export 7.805kg of meth to the United States and Australia were thwarted, he added, and also confirmed seizures of drugs and arrest of suspects in Gombe, Kogi, and Sokoto.
