Police have arrested a lady who put up for sale a baby in her womb claiming she “mistakenly got pregnant” and is without a home, having wandered from Imo to Lagos and winding up on the streets in Abuja.
Chinaza, 23, approached doctors at the National Hospital, Abuja to seek a buyer for her unborn baby but ended up in police detention.
A source in the hospital disclosed that when she got pregnant, she left her parents’ house in Imo to live with her friend in Lagos; the friend’s house was later demolished and they both relocated to Abuja.
“A pregnant lady came to the hospital over the weekend and said she wanted to sell her unborn baby. She said she mistakenly got pregnant and left her parents’ house in Imo State to stay with her friend in Lagos State.
“While living with her friend, she said her residence was demolished and they travelled to Abuja to live with her friend’s uncle,” the source recounted, according The PUNCH.
“She said her uncle’s landlady complained about the number of persons occupying the apartment, and they were later asked to leave.
“While wandering around, she said she requested help from a woman she met in Utako, Abuja, and the woman gave her N500. She said the woman told her to come to the hospital to say whatever was on her mind.
“She has been handed over to the police in the FCT. She is still there as I speak.”
Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh said “I am aware of the incident. The lady in question is with us.”

Lagos police arrest boy for stealing a child
In Lagos, police have also arrested Ayomide Fawehinmi, 22, who was rescued from mob justice for allegedly stealing a child aged 15 in the Surulere axis.
Police officers arrived the scene following a distress call, rescued the suspect and thereafter arrested him, per reporting by The PUNCH.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin said preliminary investigation shows Fawehinmi lured the child from his mother’s shop and took him to an unknown destination before he was accosted by a neighbour who raised the alarm.
He allegedly dispossessed the boy of his phone to cut off communication with his mother.
“The boy has been rescued unhurt and the phone has been recovered; investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability. The suspect would be arraigned contingent on the outcome of the investigation,” Hundeyin disclosed in a statement.
Police Commissioner Abiodun Alabi commended residents for always promptly alerting the authorities of suspicious persons or happenings but warned members of the public to desist from jungle justice, which itself is a crime.
