The overseer of Potiskum Local Government Area, who is also the Director, Personnel Management (DPM), Ahmed Iliyasu, has appealed to the warring factions of Association of Commercial Tricycle Riders of Nigeria, Potiskum council chapter to embrace peace.
Iliyasu lamented that they had watched with grave concern the growing crises within the association in the local government area and said that there was need to end the problem. His words: “We note that the crisis is deepening in spite of the various steps the stakeholders have taken to find an amicable resolution”.
He recalled that the elders and stakeholders and other eminent community leaders had all tried at various times to ensure that the issues did not escalate.
Iliyasu further said,
“Sadly, the previous interventions have not yielded desirable results.
“However, our immediate concern for the association is how to ensure that unity returns to the ranks of the association in the local government area. In achieving this, we have decided to constitute a high-power fact-finding and reconciliation committee of security agencies, peace groups and market association leaders to meet with all disputing parties to ensure that all issues are addressed and resolved.”
It would be recalled that during the previous meeting with the two factions at the Council Chambers of the LG Secretariat,the two parallel leadership of the association were suspended by the council.
“We, therefore, uphold the suspension of the two Red and Black Chairmen, Danladi Lawan and Saidu Lawan, pending the inauguration of the caretaker committee”.
After the meeting in Potiskum on Wednesday, the Chairman of the United Markers Association of Nigeria, Potiskum LG chapter, Nasiru Mato, said that they had intervened and started making progress in uniting the two factions of the Tricycle Riders Association.
“We have resolved to form a Caretaker Committee which will steer the affairs of the association for sometimes and conduct elections where neutral persons will come in,” he said.
