Portugal, United console soccer icon, Ronaldo after losing son

Ronaldo and Rodriguez in October of last year announced on Instagram they were expecting a set of twins but did not specify a due date

Former European champions, Portugal and Premier League club, Man United have sent condolence messages to the ace striker,  Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently disclosed that he and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez lost one of their twins.

The 37-year-old Portugal international made the tragic announcement on Monday and his country and club decided to identify with him by sending their love and support after the loss of his son.

Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, who already have a five-year-old daughter, Alana, were expecting a set of twins, but while his daughter came out alive, the boy passed on.

His club, while consoling the striker said they shared in his pain and prayed for the strength for him to carry on.  

Manchester United tweeted: “Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano

“Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”

Similarly, his country, of which he is their captain, prayed for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss is his son. 

“A lot of strength, captain” The Twitter account for the Portugal national team posted.

His former team, Real Madrid, rival clubs, among them Leeds United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool also sent condolences.

Ronaldo’s United teammates also joined the outpouring of sympathy, as England forward Marcus Rashford and Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea wished him and his partner well.

In October of last year, Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced on Instagram they were expecting a set of twins but did not specify a due date.

Ronaldo, who plays for Manchester United and is among the world’s highest-paid athletes, has four other children. Rodriguez and Ronaldo welcomed their first child, Alana together in 2017.

The Manchester United icon returned to Old Trafford last summer from Serie A side Juventus and brought his family to English shores, looking forward to bonding with his twins upon their arrival.
