Portable meets police bail conditions after 24 hours in police detention

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Street musician Portable (Habeeb Okikiola) eventually met his bail conditions and was released from detention by the police on Wednesday evening after grinding his nose against cell for 24 hours, largely because he could not fulfil bail conditions by Wednesday morning.

Lagos Police grabbed and dragged him into their orbit on Tuesday over his alleged refusal to complete payment for his Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, a luxury jeep he flaunts as a status symbol largely to silence critics of his outrageous antics on and off stage.

The ‘Zazzu’ crooner bought the car from Ogunsanwo Temitope (Temmy Autos) but paid an initial N13 million out of the N27 million sale price. Temmy Autos alleged he failed to to pay the N14 million balance and reported him to the police.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Benajmin Hundeyin confirmed Portable’s release to Vanguard on Wednesday evening.

Asked if Portable has sorted out the issues, Hundeyin said: “I have no idea about it but what I can say is that he has been granted bail.”
