Portable apologises after walking out during celebrity boxing rematch against actor Charles Okocha

​Portable suffered defeat in his celebrity boxing rematch against Nollywood star Charles Okocha on Friday night after abandoning the bout during the opening round.

​Afrobeats star and street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has tendered an apology to organisers and fans for abandoning his celebrity boxing rematch against actor Charles Okocha.

​The ‘Zazuu’ crooner pleaded on Saturday in a statement issued by his management, a few hours after the bout.

​Portable declined to continue the eagerly anticipated boxing match against the Nollywood star after the first round, incurring the wrath of Nigerians in the process.

​Speaking after the rematch on Friday night, the artiste apologised to the organisers, event crew, supporters, and everyone who attended the event, describing the outcome as disappointing.

​The statement read: “We sincerely apologise to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the entire event team, our fans, friends, family, and everyone who came out to support Portable at tonight’s celebrity boxing event.”

​The singer’s handlers also acknowledged the disappointment caused by his decision to leave the contest after the opening round, but urged Nigerians to respect his choice.

​“We understand the disappointment caused by the outcome of the fight and by Portable’s decision to step away after the first round. While emotions can run high in moments like these, we respectfully ask everyone to respect his decision and perspective,” it added.
